Black Terns at Amwell, 14th June 2026

A lazy Sunday morning but when Graham White posted to say there were two Black Terns at Amwell, I quickly popped down. An unusual time of year to see them! They were mainly in the centre of the pit which made obtaining decent images difficult. They also fly quickly, twisting and turning, so just a few shots salvaged.

You can clearly see the differences between the two bird with one in full Summer plumage and the other not as black underneath. A nice surprise!
