Fortunately Chapmore End and Stonyhills are just up the road from me and a tip off revealed that a particular field was good for Hares. It is quite a bleak area and the early mist added to the atmosphere. Skylark's were singing, but high up and therefore no great photo opportunities. However a fine Great Tit was very active, probably looking for a mate.

The Hare's were initially quite tricky to spot as they were low down in the crop and also fairly distant. One however did venture slightly nearer and thankfully sat up for some shots. I counted at least 5 in the field but there were probably more as it is a large area. Whilst happy to get some shots, I really need to spend some time perhaps in a different location to get closer shots and hopefully some interactive "boxing" pictures.

Walking around further, two Grey Partridges were a pleasant surprise together with a 50+ strong flock of Fieldfares with a sprinkling of Redwing.

The area is also very good for Red Kites and there were at least four eyeing up a dead rabbit in one of the fields. Don't think I have seen four birds perched up together before!

And to round off the morning, one extra for the mammal list!
