Kingfisher in Hertford 29th/30th November 2023

A combination of bad weather and a stinking cold and cough has curtailed trips out recently. However, a couple of sunny days allowed for some very local trips and the major surprise was this male Goosander on the smaller rivers in Hertford.

Mallard's are usually overlooked, but what fantastic plumage they have!

Another common creature that is often overlooked is the Grey Squirrel and it was good watching this one feasting on Hawthorn berries.

Kingfishers are around Hartham and the Meads all year round but in the Winter when birds disperse they can be easier to see. This female was fishing close to the path and oblivious to many of the people passing close by.

A wonderful bird and I hope she survives the Winter and finds a mate.
