Marsh Harrier at RSPB Fowlmere, 4th March 2023

I was leading a walk for the RSPB SE Herts Group and with 18 people it was a great turnout but understandably not the ideal forum for photography. Some great birds seen including Yellowhammer, Green Woodpecker, Siskins, Lesser Redpoll and one of the Barn Owls looking out of its box. The regular herd of Fallow Deer were in the field near to the airstrip.

A Chiffchaff was feeding along the river edge.

The Mere was fairly quiet with one Teal and a pair of Gadwall, but quite a lot of Greylag Geese activity.

Without doubt though the star bird was this young male Marsh Harrier which made a pass across the reedbed.

Not the best of weather, but perhaps the drizzle adds something to the pictures.
