My first proper trip away in 18 months and a chance to see my Sister in North Yorkshire. After a long drive up and lunch, a couple of hours up on the moors. A fantastic, and quiet location. The first birds to show were Lapwing, with a chick very close to the minor road.

I had a brief view of Wheatear, but Meadow Pipits were everywhere!

As we pulled in to park a Red Grouse strolled across the road and disappeared into the heather. I thought it would be easy to get some shots, but it was not until we were leaving that another showed well and I managed a few shots.

The highlight for me however were the Curlews. I grew up near the North Yorkshire Moors and that haunting call is etched in my childhood memories. They certainly had young and were flying around calling keeping a close eye on us. Great opportunities for both perched and flight shots.
