Return is perhaps the wrong word as it never actually departed, but had not been seen for almost four weeks. It was spotted by Alan Reynolds and Andy Johnson briefly but again was difficult to locate apart from one sunny afternoon where it came out early. I managed to connect again on the 6th March. However before it appeared I spotted something perched on one of the concrete drains and managed to use the cover of some small trees to approach a bit closer. It turned out to be one of the local Kestrel's which had caught a mouse or vole and was tucking in!
Just as the clock struck 5pm I glimpsed the Short Eared Owl in the distance between Stockade Mead and Hollow Mead. Eventually it came closer and I managed to get a few shots though it was always slightly too far off.
Always a joy to watch this bird so locally! How many more days will it remain before returning home?
